AMERICAN
WEST ARENA
In 1995, the America West Arena contacted Sylvan Industries with
an idea for a panel to be used as an ice cover. The new ice panel
idea was originally engineered by the City of Tacoma. After some
redesign. Scott Wilson, from Sylvan's Overlay Panel Division, came
up with a product that exceeded our expectations in durability,
appearance, and R-Value insulation quality.
These panels
are set over the ice for an event, and pulled out after that event,
approximately fifty times per year. They are easily cleaned and
present a flat surface. After examining several ice covers, from
different manufacturers, the Sylvan panels have been found to be
far superior in every way.
Although I've
never met Scott Wilson personally, he tackled this idea with a very
professional approach. It was very apparent from the start that
he was quite knowledgeable in his field, quick to adapt, and a problem-solver.
Scott was responsible for taking the ice cover design into the production
stage.
It is my understanding
that this design is being used in several other NHL facilities.
With an average of over two hundred events each year, the America
West Arena has had considerable experience with the panels. We've
found the Sylvan panels to be the solution to event floor covering
needs.
